TURKEY’s
history can be traced back almost 10,000 years and its position where east meets
west has placed it at the centre of many world changing developments and
civilising forces: from the World’s oldest dated settlement around 7,500 B.C.
through Greeks, Romans, Hittites, Lycians, Byzantines, the Crusades,
Christianity and Islam, the rise, expansion and fall of the Ottoman Empire, to
the First World War, which at it’s end saw Turkey reborn as a secular 20th
century democracy under Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s leadership.
